About Nadine
Hello, I am Nadine Robb, a ski and freelance adventure travel writer living in Japan and Canada.
Born and raised in the south east of England, I arrived in Japan in 2010, drawn by the ski resorts of Hakuba - a mountain village in Japan’s Northern Alps. Having spent many happy holidays on the Austrian ski slopes as a child, the natural evolution of adulthood was to create a life in the mountains in which I could combine my love of writing with my love of snow sports.
Writing has always been my strongest tool for self expression, and studying English Literature further fuelled the desire to write that I had carried since childhood. I started writing for local publications and with time I was able to take on bigger projects and commit more time writing. After writing a children’s book I continued to produce primarily mountain sport and lifestyle specific pieces, drawing on my specialised and intimate knowledge of the ski and luxury travel industries.
As a professional ski and snowboard instructor, I founded Hakuba Ski Concierge in 2016 - a luxury ski school operating out of Hakuba47 Winter Sports Park. As our lessons and guiding services are exclusively private, our focus is very much on delivering high end, unique and fully customised experiences in the mountains.
When I am not instructing, guiding, writing, (or mothering - I have two children under five), I love to backcountry ski. I was introduced to ski touring over a decade ago by my husband - backcountry guide and Northern Heights Guiding owner James Robb - and it has strongly remained with me since. When the snow melts, I enjoy paddle sports, hiking, mountain biking and climbing, and having previously guided these activities, I hold certifications in Swift Water Rescue, Advanced Wilderness First Aid and Avalanche Skills Training.
My personal interest and experience in these pursuits enables me to write from an informed perspective, and one that is able to draw comparisons, create context and provide specialist information and detail on numerous facets of the ski, adventure and luxury travel industries.
Having lived in rural Japan for over a decade, and now in Canada’s Columbia Valley during the summers, my work has diversified to include cultural commentaries, business, anthropology and children in sport.
I would love to hear from you, and if you have any questions or an interest to collaborate - please do get in touch.
